It's one of those terrible paradoxes. He really does appreciate that she's sensitive enough to try not to be too harsh of a reminder of all he's lost. But the very fact that she goes out of her way only serves to remind him of all he's lost.
Every time she goes somewhere else to change, or doesn't say anything when his humanity slips slightly out of place, or doesn't yell at him for keeping her cooped up here out in the middle of nowhere... It's all just a reminder.
But he can't tell her to leave. He knows it's selfish, but now that he's stuck in this body... she's all he has left.
